BMCO mourns Heinrich Poos
On 19 August this year, the composer and musicologist Prof. Dr. Heinrich Poos died at the age of almost 92. With his death, the music world beyond Germany loses one of its most important composers, who left behind an extensive and varied life's work, especially in the field of choral music (main publisher: Schott Music, Mainz). As a student of Ernst Pepping, Poos belonged to the generation of composers such as Helmut Barbe or Hugo Distler, who felt obliged to set sacred texts to music, but not exclusively.
"As a music writer, Heinrich Poos has presented outstanding analytical works on the creations of Franz Schubert, Hugo Wolf, Ernst Peppings, Johann Sebastian Bach and others, which have set new standards", comments Prof. Dr. Hans Jaskulsky, Chairman of the International Working Group for Music e.V. (IAM).
He was still able to accompany some editions that were in preparation: the collection "Bunte Steine" with song arrangements, last analytical texts (also about his own works) and finally his updated and now completed catalogue of works.
Heinrich Poos was a spiritual measure that will be missing.
