The world as guests in Allgäu - Musica Sacra International unites five world religions in one festival
The Musica Sacra International festival, held every two years, presents high-quality music from the major world religions and other cultures from May 21th until 24th 2021 over Whitsun in Marktoberdorf and the whole Allgäu region. With its music the festival, which can be understood as a cultural meeting place, aims to contribute to the discovery and understanding of other cultures and religions. Visitors experience extraordinary musical contributions, diversity, community and tolerance.
The choirs and ensembles present themselves in numerous concerts across the whole Allgäu region. The aim is the joint performance of concerts by Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Muslims and Christians. Whenever possible, the concerts take place in churches, synagogues and mosques. Introductions given by experts contribute to an enhanced understanding of the individual programmes.
An additional programme of studios, lectures, discussions and common prayer complement the festival.
The festival choir invites all interested singers to join in and discover new choral works.
Children and young adults are offered an age-orientated educational programme.
The main festival venue is the Bavarian Music Academy Marktoberdorf. Concerts take place across the whole Allgäu region.
Since 2018 the Federal German Music Association of Choirs & Orchestras has been the festival’s ideational supporter.
